The Committee for Public Justice (CPJ), an affiliate of the ACLU, was formed in 1970 to voice concern over the “period of political repression” it perceived the nation to be entering. After the CPJ denounced the FBI, the bureau enlisted conservative media figures to help neutralize the impact of the committee’s findings.
